13FEB10

things are moving along nicely. painting and hardwood on track to be finished by the 19th. .... the pattern around the fireplace is the design H came up with for the slate that will be placed there. sunroom shot is showing the slight, but noticeable, difference btwn their orangey-peachy yellow and our deeper, richer tone. really looking forward to getting the chocolate furniture delivered now.

31JAN10

I've lost track of which day we're at. H was working off site for the better portion of last week but we've been back at it for several days. Master bedroom is painted (just needs some touch ups around the trim) and the floor has been started.

The patch of red is a cropped shot of how the paint technique turned out in the bedroom. I love it! The yellow isn't quite as deep as I was hoping but the lighting is also pretty extreme. Once we get furnishings in place I think it will pull together.

This weeks plan - paint hallways, living room, dining room and (hopefully) sunroom/kitchen.  Furniture delivery is Feb 20th so we need flooring and paint done in master, living room and sunroom for sure.  Official move in date is Feb 26th but if it's 20 below again I'm calling the whole thing off!

Day 5

today was paint day ... managed to stay $300 under budget so that let us pick up 3 floor lamps. it's all smoke and mirrors re finances pretty much.

more trim work taken down today then while ashes, hoot and i hot tubbed H pulled up the laminate through the entire hallway in between bringing me fresh bevvies.  he's a good man, that one!

and let me just say... ashes can seriously rock a towel and a pair of uggs!

Day 4

spent about 7 hours at Home Depot today... and thank the heavens for our friend Cheryl Borean... we managed to get all of our purchases on a 12 month payment/interest deferral! HUGE bonus. even ordered 2 windows that need to be replaced and we'll get the tax credit for them too.

the magnificent Heather White (aka HOOT) came out to give a hand today and finished scrubbing up the kitchen til it practically shone

H is really quite happy with his new tools... shop vac being one of them....

the rest of the main floor carpet has been taken up as well as the nail strips and the brick from the fireplace is gone, ready for slate.

and, i have proven myself to be a true home improvements hazard....this is from moving 23kg boxes of hardwood over the weekend.

tomorrow... we buy paint. do some more cleaning. have a bit of an easier day before i head back to work wednesday morning and H starts taking up the laminate in the hallway to prepare for the slate.

Day 3

left the camera back at the house so photo will come later. not much yet to look at. very productive day with a lot of help from Kim and Tony.
we have managed to: haul up another load in car/trailer. tear out carpet and corner cabinetry in sunroom. take tv downstairs. start carpet tear out in dining room. fridge and half the kitchen cupboards cleaned. just about all  trim & baseboards removed.
tomorrow we buy tools and flooring stuff at Home Depot, take out the rest of the carpet, finish cleaning kitchen and clean the bathrooms. that's the plan, at least!

Home Ownership

we arrived at our new noon home about 3 hrs after the lawyer called to tell me all was in order and we were good to go. the previous owner was still there but was completely alone and still had 2 rooms of boxes/clothing to move and was using a hatchback. soooo H and I unloaded our cars and our trailer, loaded up her stuff and moved it for her. our agent (the great and mighty merilyn mccart) says we already had a place in heaven, but now we qualify for having a drink with god. LOL
a lot of folks have asked about the house and seem interested to follow our progress so i figured this would be the easiest way to keep folks up to date.
this is my first blogging effort and i'm not sure how many pics i'm allowed to post so i guess we'll just find out as i go along.

this marks the end of day 2 and we've moved quite a number of boxes over including 56 boxes of hardwood and roughly 30 very very heavy boxes of slate. we've ripped down some of the trim and pulled out some nails in preparation for painting soon.

tomorrow the plan is to tear up carpet in 4 rooms, moved the 52" tv to the basement and take down the breakfast nook table and the corner cabinetry for the tv in the sunroom.

this room is NOT gonna stay this colour!! we have decided on Benjamin Moore's "turret"

this bathroom is in serious need of an upgrade but that will have to wait til 2011
major changes coming for the master bedroom

with some new carpet and slate this hallway should look quite different.
the "sunroom" (for lack of better definition) is an extension of the kitchen area. the far patio door exits to the hot tub on the deck. half of this room will be refloored now, the kitchen area will be reno'd by xmas-hopefully
